Mr. DeVeny’s primary areas of practice are family law and criminal defense. In more than thirty-five years of practice he has represented thousands of clients in divorces, dissolutions, custody, support, visitation, and contempt of court actions. His practice also includes representing clients in juvenile court in paternity, custody, support and visitation actions. His criminal practice includes the defense of felony charges, misdemeanor charges, DUI and other traffic violations, domestic violence, and contempt of court actions.
Mr. DeVeny is a lifetime resident of the greater Dayton area, having grown up in Kettering where he attended Kettering Fairmont West High School. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in marketing/ management from Miami University and was awarded a degree of Juris Doctor from the University of Cincinnati, College of Law in 1974. He is a former Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for Greene County, Ohio, a former Law Director of the Greene County Legal Aid Society, and a former Assistant Attorney General for the State of Ohio.
Mr. DeVeny is admitted to practice in all Ohio courts, including the Ohio Supreme Court and is also admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court. He is a member of the Dayton Bar Association, the Ohio State Bar Association, the Stanley Z. Greenberg Family Law Forum, and is a member of the Dayton Bar Association Family Law Committee.
Mr. DeVeny is a partner and has been in private practice with the firm of Thompson & DeVeny since 1982. He and his wife Jan currently live in Centerville, Ohio and have two adult children.
